Savills Notts racks up 86% success rate from fewer bidders

Savills-logo-THUMB.jpegSavills Nottingham achieved an 86% success rate from its 27-lot September auction, despite fewer attendees than usual.

Receipts for the sale of £1.8m were down by more than 60% on its September sale last year, which raised £5.4m. It was also down on its previous sale, held in July this year, when Savills Nottingham raised £2.6m.

Highlights included a former caretaker’s bungalow in Stapleford, Notts, bought by an owner-occupier for £145,000 off a £90,000-£100,000 guide. A 21,300 sq ft former school in Worksop, Notts, sold for £325,000 off a £300,000 guide.

Bob Crocker, head of residential auctions, said the school was an unusually large lot to sell over its guide price in that location.

He said the recent political and economic events had not affected bidding, but added: “There seems to have been an impact on the numbers attending.”

However, the buyers who had turned up, he said, had seemed intent on buying.

One lot that was withdrawn prior to sale – a parcel of land with permission for 16 flats – attracted interest from a buyer in Tokyo, he said. The lot is to be included in the next catalogue.

The sale took place on 1 September at Nottingham Racecourse.
