Savills’ London development land team has walked more than 26.2 miles and raised over £26,000 for the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.
The agent’s London head office in Margaret Street, W1, was the starting point for the marathon route, which saw the team visit its residential offices across the city in St John’s Wood, Hampstead, Islington, Hackney Wick, Canary Wharf, Westminster, Chelsea and Sloane Street.
Leading firms support Ukrainian refugees
The UK Ukraine Business Consortium Network, led by EnterpriseAlumni chief executive Emma Sinclair, has brought together 150 companies keen to support refugees fleeing the conflict in Ukraine to gain access to education, language support and employment opportunities.
Refugees arriving in the UK are facing difficulties finding employment that match their skill set and experience owing to the requirement for English language training and UK re-accreditation. The prohibitive cost of this process leads to many displaced professionals ending up working in survival jobs.
The consortium’s pilot programme, launched in partnership with RefuAid, has secured the support of some major UK companies – including PageGroup, PwC, FDM and Portman Dental Group – to sponsor English language learning, certification and resettlement skills courses for refugees.
As a result of this supportive start, the programme has now been scaled up to reach a wider network of companies, including firms from the built environment such as Persimmon, Kier and Gleeds, with plans for a third, even larger cohort to be announced in the summer.
Restaurants help raise £700,000 to tackle homelessness
LandAid and StreetSmart’s annual homelessness campaign during November and December 2021 raised £696,000.
A total of 512 restaurants across the UK took part in the initiative, which adds a voluntary donation of £1 to diners’ bills. All the money raised went to homelessness projects in the cities involved. Among the supporting restaurants were London’s Michelin-starred River Café and Birmingham’s Adams.
