UK Regeneration chief executive Jackie Sadek has been appointed chair of the Northern Gateway Development Zone.
The zone, a joint venture between two local enterprise partnerships (Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire, Cheshire and Warrington) and seven councils, aims to promote growth and employment, supercharged by HS2 investment.
Sadek, who was a specialist regeneration adviser to the government, has previously worked with the London Docklands Development Corporation, Tesco, Park Royal Partnership and the British Urban Regeneration Association.
She said: “We are opening up a new and rich vein of opportunity for business right at the heart of the national transport network. It is perfectly positioned at the heart of the UK economy. It really is ‘the place where the UK connects’.”
The Northern Gateway was launched last year at MIPIM UK by former housing minister Brandon Lewis.
Plans for the full scale of its ambition are currently being worked up, but it has so far set out its aims, including delivery of 100,000 new homes and 120,000 new jobs by 2040.
