Royal Mail brings to market key Coventry development opportunity

Royal Mail has gone to market with two acres of land set to form part of a £1bn retail-led makeover of Coventry city centre.

The postal service is selling the freehold of its 200,000 sq ft former sorting office, fronting St Nicholas Ringway, plus the long leasehold of the adjacent Tower Street car park, both of which sit on a two-acre site close to the West Orchards Shopping Centre. It is seeking an undisclosed sum.

The land was originally set to form part of the first phase of the Jerde Partnership’s ambitious masterplan for the regeneration of Coventry city centre. first published in 2008. Since then, however, the collapse of West Orchards’ former owner Modus, which was due to drive the redevelopment, has caused a shift in focus to the southern half of the city centre.

The agent for the ex-sorting office – now known as the Mail Centre – is Jones Lang Lasalle.
