Roka owner to open new Greek restaurant in Fitzrovia

The family behind a string of famous London restaurants, including Roka, Oblix, Zuma and The Arts Club, is opening a new restaurant in Fitzrovia, W1.

Peter Waney has agreed a deal to lease a site on Great Titchfield Street, Fitzrovia, where it will open 150-cover Greek restaurant Meraki .

The 4,600 sq ft site has two outdoor terraces and a bar and has been taken on a 15-year lease. The rent is £140,000 pa.

Greek-born chef Dimitrios Siamanis, who has worked at Michelin-starred restaurants Zafferano in Belgravia, The Square in Mayfair and Alain Ducasse’s The Grill at the Dorchester Hotel, will head up the kitchen.

David Rawlinson, founding director of Restaurant Property, said:  “Fitzrovia exploded on to most operators’ radar when The Riding House Café opened with huge success.

“Before then, Charlotte Street in Fitzrovia was the only place to be – home of the original Roka and Pied à Terre alongside the Charlotte Street Hotel.

“Since then, Picture and Portland have opened on Great Portland Street and now central and eastern Fitzrovia is as much in demand as other prime parts of the West End. This is due to landlord’s rental expectations being £80/£100 per sq ft – which is approximately half that of Soho or Mayfair.”
