A former Soho sex shop and illegal strip club is to be converted into a new grill restaurant run by the Hawksmoor team.
Westminster city council last night gave the Soho Housing Association planning permission to use the basement and ground floor of 24 Windmill Street, W1, for retail and restaurant use.
The restaurant will be operated by Jacob’s Ladder – a new grill concept by the Hawksmoor team.
Richard Beddoe, Westminster’s committee chairman said: “This application will take this property from clip joint to hip joint.”
He added: “What was once a place marked by the police as a rip-off club where customers were sometimes marched to cash points if they refused to pay extortionate prices to leave, will now become one of London’s latest must-visit restaurants.”
