Restaurant numbers heading south with the boom at an end

The restaurant boom is over, with more than 750 outlets being closed over the past 12 months.

According to the latest Market Growth Monitor from CGA and Alix Partners, the consultancies, the number of restaurants fell by 2.8%, net of openings, in the year to March.

The acceleration of the closure rate, equating to 15 sites a week, brings to an end a boom period in which restaurants grew in number by more than 15% between 2013 and 2018.
