The number of Londoners leaving the capital to live in the Midlands or north of England has more than tripled in the past decade as homeowners are increasingly priced out of the capital.
Years of soaring house prices, high stamp duty costs and sluggish wage growth are leading thousands of Londoners to leave the city each year, according to research from the estate agent Hamptons International.
In 2008, 6% of Londoners who left the city in the first six months of the year went to live in the Midlands or further north. By this year the proportion had reached 21%.
