New Zealand-headquartered agritech firm Rakon is relocating its chipset design hub to Cambourne Park Science and Technology Campus in Cambridge.
Currently fitting out the space to create dry labs, Rakon is expected to be operational on site by the end of July. The firm has secured 4,877 sq ft in Building 2020 on a 10-year lease.
Having acquired the site in 2021, Life Science REIT and its investment adviser, Ironstone Asset Management, have been assessing and evaluating the future trajectory of the 50-acre location, including a rebranding exercise, feasibility studies for the refurbishment and repurposing of buildings, and the development of a masterplan that transitions the site from a traditional business park to a more science and technology-focused campus.
A programme of retrofit includes the provision of further lab and tech bench space, as well as a permanent café/lifestyle amenity.
Ian Harris, director of asset management at Ironstone, said: “We are further enhancing the ecosystem through the provision of science and tech space to satisfy the current market demand, ensuring that companies working to solve some of the world’s most challenging issues can continue to thrive here.”
