The founders of Puttshack and Topgolf are preparing to launch a new competitive socialising business and have picked one of British Land’s City of London developments as its first home.
Poolhouse “blends the familiar traditions of pool with cutting-edge gameplay technology”, according to documents lodged with the City of London Corporation ahead of the company setting up shop in British Land’s 100 Liverpool Street, EC2.
The company, founded by Steve and Dave Jolliffe, will take space on two floors, with 3,885 sq ft on the ground floor and 17,361 sq ft on the first floor. The ground floor will include a bar, reception area with up to three pool tables and seating. The first floor will have 18 pool tables, along with private studios for coaching or events and a kitchen.
The space has been occupied by gym operator John Reed Fitness since 2021 and is expected to be vacated “imminently”, according to a planning statement prepared by Bidwells.
Poolhouse will employ 88 staff members, and the company said it has worked with British Land on an operational management statement.
The planning documents describe the competitive socialising market as “booming”, adding: “Traditional F&B is being disrupted.”
Allan Ellis, creative director at Poolhouse, said: “By embracing innovation and authenticity, we are pioneering a fresh and groundbreaking approach to the pool experience. Our disruptive vision will revolutionise the sport and establish a truly global business, leveraging our experience to ensure a significant positive impact.”
