Protest delays decision on Shepherd’s Bush Market redevelopment

A protest over the planned redevelopment of London’s Shepherd’s Bush Market, W12, led to Hammersmith & Fulham’s planning meeting being cancelled this week.

Members of the Protect Shepherd’s Bush Market campaign group attended the meeting and objected to Yoo Capital’s plans to demolish the St Mungo’s building and redevelop the market with chants and banners, according to the London Property Alliance.

Police were called and the meeting was then adjourned. A council spokesperson said: “We will shortly announce a new date, time and location for the meeting to resume.”

The scheme, which had been recommended for approval, comprises a new 240,000 sq ft office building, lab space and 40 affordable homes. Yoo Capital became the majority owner of the market and the land next to it, known as the Old Laundry Yard, after buying a 75% stake from U+I in September 2020.

A petition to save the market that has been running for close to a decade has attracted more than 14,000 signatures.
