Fresh blood dominates in the Estates Gazette Power List 2016 with 80% of this year’s ranking made up of new entries.
After a year of global shifts, technological advances, mergers and acquisitions and new players shaking up the sector, this year’s list demonstrates just how hard it is to maintain power and influence in the UK property sector.
Just two of the top 10 slots went to Power List stalwarts, as Derwent London’s chief executive John Burns and Bank of England Governor Mark Carney rocketed up the rankings since last year.
The number of women to feature on the list has grown 400% since 2015, while co-working space WeWork led the start-up charge with the highest debut entry.
In a year that includes the election of a new London mayor, a new US president and a referendum on Britain’s position within the EU, politics featured heavily, taking almost a fifth of the Power List slots available.
