Platform_ unwraps 1,350-home Sweet Street BTR scheme

Build-to-rent developer and operator Platform_ has submitted a planning application for the development of a 1.3m sq ft mixed-use development on Sweet Street, Leeds.

The masterplan includes 1,350 homes and 200,000 sq ft of commercial space in the South Bank regeneration area. The development is set to bring £500m of investment in the brownfield site which has been vacant since 2009.

The eight-acre development will include a gym, residents’ lounges, co-working space and a mix of studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom homes. It will also provide two grade-A sustainable office buildings, new leisure and retail opportunities, and the regeneration of The Commercial pub.

The development is expected to create 360 full-time equivalent jobs during the construction phase and once completed, support more than 1,000 new FTE jobs across the proposed uses.

Platform_ chief executive Jean-Marc Vandevivere said: “The Sweet Street development represents an exciting and evolutionary addition to our portfolio, while also underlining our commitment to long-term investment in the region. We are aiming to commence works to bring our vision to life in 2023.”

Matt Willcock, development director at Platform_, added: “Intrinsic to our design has been positive collaboration with Leeds City Council and stakeholders, including Leeds Civic Trust and the Holbeck Neighbourhood Forum. This has helped us to carefully shape our proposals to ensure the scheme responds to the requirements of the city and enriches existing neighbourhoods, helping to futureproof housing options and aid economic growth.”
