Plans revealed for £60m scheme at former tobacco site

Henry Boot Developments has submitted a planning application for a £60m redevelopment at the former Imperial Tobacco site in Nottingham after purchasing it last summer.

The 48-acre site had been home to Imperial Tobacco’s UK production and distribution facility from the late 1960s until 2016 when production was moved overseas.

The tobacco products giant still operates out of a distribution warehouse on the site and over the past year Henry Boot has undertaken works to improve it. It has also created new car parking areas and a new vehicle entrance, along with heating plant and utilities to separate it from the former manufacturing building, known as Horizon, which is to be demolished to make way for the new scheme.

The new development, named New Horizon, will stretch out over the southern half of the site, covering 28 acres, to provide up to 500,000 sq ft of new industrial buildings.

Justin Sheldon, regional manager at Henry Boot Developments, said: “We have already undertaken some selective demolition of the Horizon building, and the remainder will be completed throughout the late summer and autumn period. We  certainly hope to see new buildings on the site by autumn next year.”

JLL and Knight Frank are joint agents on the scheme.
