Plans lodged for HMRC’s Pilgrim’s Quarter offices

The Reuben brothers’ Newcastle development vehicle has filed proposals for a 463,000 sq ft office scheme at Pilgrim’s Quarter, NE1, to be occupied by HMRC.

The government plans to bring 9,000 HMRC staff into Newcastle’s city centre by 2027.

Avison Young, which is advising Reuben Brothers Newcastle as its planning consultant, said it has been working alongside the design team and with the council on the application since January.

Matt Verlander, director of planning, development and regeneration at Avison Young, said: “We look forward to continuing to work with the council to progress the scheme to the council’s planning committee in spring 2022.”

Gordon Hewling, principal and regional managing director at Avison Young, added: “Over the coming years, we look forward to managing the delivery of this building, which will be a major catalyst in the regeneration of the city centre and which will anchor the redevelopment which is taking place along the whole of Pilgrim Street.”
