Birmingham council, Argent Development and Altitude Real Estate have today submitted an outline planning application for the 1.8m sq ft Paradise Circus scheme.
The Glenn Howells-designed plans for the £450m redevelopment of Paradise Circus cover 17-acres between Centenary Square and Chamberlain Square.
A mixed-use development including offices, shops, leisure, cultural and civic amenities, plus a four-star hotel to replace the existing Copthorne Hotel, is proposed.
The first phase of the project will comprise two office blocks totalling 400,000 sq ft, a 450-seat concert hall, two public squares and five pedestrian streets.
Overall, the project will provide 1.4m sq ft of offices in up to 10 buildings.
Subject to outline consent, a detailed planning application for the first phase will be submitted in late 2013/early 2014, with work starting on site in 2014. Completion of the first phase is due in Q2 2017.
Drivers Jonas Deloitte advised on planning.
