The Sleaford masterplan is a 25-year vision to improve the town centre, reduce traffic congestion, encourage investment and employment and provide better leisure facilities.
Plans include: 4,000 new homes over the next 25 years; new development land for employment; improved retail provision; better access for cars and pedestrians; possible relocation of schools to relieve congestion; an improved town centre environment
Among the ideas mooted for the town centre is the transformation of Sleaford’s Market Place and Money’s Yard – home to an 18th-century corn mill – which could be transformed into hubs of leisure and retail.
The plans will be considered at a council cabinet meeting on 24 February.
North Kesteven District Council leader Marion Brighton said: “This is not a short-term plan, and things will not change straight away. We are looking to better the future of the town over a 20 to 25-year period. Some elements of these plans will take time, but others will happen over the next couple of years.”
The council has worked for the past nine months with consultants Gillespies and its partners to create the masterplan. The process has been informed and directed by The Sleaford Regeneration Group, a partnership created specially for the masterplan to represent the range of public, private, voluntary and community sector interests in the town.
The Sleaford masterplan has been jointly funded by Lincolnshire County Council, the Homes and Communities Agency and North Kesteven District Council.
