Planning has been granted for a new eight-storey hospital building on a car park site at Cambridge Biomedical Campus.
The move follows a recommendation given by the planning officer.
The new Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital building, designed by NBBJ and to be developed by Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust will span 315,000 sq ft.
The facility will be split into departmental areas, with 155,000 sq ft for Cambridge University Hospital, 27,000 sq ft for University of Cambridge research facilities, and 6,900 sq ft for AstraZeneca research facilities.
The remainder of the building will serve outpatient and inpatient wards as well as diagnostics and treatment suites.
The scheme is being delivered as part of the New Hospitals Programme, a government initiative seeking to transform the delivery of NHS healthcare infrastructure.
