PGIM Real Estate withdraws from MIPIM over coronavirus fears

Investment giant PGIM Real Estate has become the latest attendee to pull out of the annual MIPIM conference over fears about the spread of the coronavirus.

According to the event’s database, the firm had expected to host an exhibition at the event and send almost 40 members of staff, but a spokesperson confirmed that it would no longer attend.

“PGIM Real Estate has taken the difficult decision to not attend MIPIM 2020 due to the ongoing spread of the coronavirus,” they said. “The health and wellbeing of employees and our clients is, and always will be, our utmost priority.”

PGIM’s decision not to attend the conference comes after agency Cushman & Wakefield pulled out of the event.

C&W said: “The health and safety of our employees and our clients is our priority. With the rapidly increasing number of cases of coronavirus in Europe and the elevated industry-wide concern around attendance at large multinational events, we have decided to withdraw from MIPIM.”

Questions over the conference have mounted as the spread of coronavirus has entered new European countries. However, organiser Reed MIDEM has so far insisted that the event will still go ahead.
