Pete Waterman, best known as the record producer behind acts such as Kylie Minogue, Rick Astley and Cliff Richard, is lobbying the government to bring the new high speed two railway link to Crewe, Cheshire.
Waterman, a keen railway enthusiast, has been elected onto the new 11-strong Cheshire and Warrington Local Enterprise Partnership.
The 250 mile per hour HS2 railway line is designed to link London with the north and is planned to run from the capital to Birmingham.
However, a second phase of the line is proposed, linking Birmingham with Manchester, Leeds and Sheffield.
Waterman is adamant that the Manchester branch should run through Crewe, bringing much-needed jobs and regeneration to the area.
