Penny Hughes takes helm at Riverstone

Penny Hughes has been appointed as chairman of Goldman Sachs-backed Riverstone.

The retirement property developer is preparing to invest up to £3bn across London over the next seven years.

Hughes, the former chair of Aston Martin Lagonda, has also served on the boards of Royal Bank of Scotland, Next and Body Shop.

She was chair of iQ Student Accommodation until its £4.66bn sale by Goldman Sachs and Wellcome Trust to Blackstone and remains an adviser to the company.

Riverstone is overseeing construction at sites in Fulham and Kensington and is seeking 10 more.

Jason Leek, chief executive at Riverstone, said: “Penny’s arrival at Riverstone is a pivotal moment on our journey, as we seek to benefit from her long experience of enhancing world-class businesses through focus on the customer experience.

“As we expand our portfolio, Penny’s understanding of people, culture, service and brand throughout her career will be particularly valuable to Riverstone.”
