Bellway Homes and Peabody have received planning permission for the regeneration and building of a new mixed-use scheme on the Pembury Estate in Hackney, E8.
The project will include 280 new homes, shops and a community centre. The development will include 50% affordable housing, including a large proportion of family-sized homes to meet local housing needs.
Long earmarked for regeneration, Pembury Circus is located on the corner of Pembury Road and Dalston Lane. It has been disused since two blocks of bedsits and an underground car park on the site, a constant source of antisocial behaviour and criminal activity, were demolished in 2005.
Ian Gorst, land director for Bellway Homes, said: “We are delighted that the plans for the regeneration of Pembury Circus have been approved and we look forward to delivering the investment in new homes and facilities that are much needed in the area.”
