Peel L&P reveals Chatham Docks redev plans

Regeneration specialist Peel L&P has set out its vision for the 90-acre site at Chatham Docks industrial estate, in Kent.

The masterplan includes 1m sq ft of workspace targeting creative and healthcare tenants, 3,600 homes, 35 acres of community space, and improved connectivity with neighbouring areas.

Chatham Docks Industrial Estate extends from the Chatham Waters development, one of Peel L&P’s seven waterfront regeneration schemes across England and Scotland.

Since 2011, the company has invested £125m in Chatham Waters, regenerating the brownfield site and building 400 new homes.

It expects to make a further investment of £350m over the next four years in Chatham Waters, specifically on green community areas and an events zone, with a further 550 new homes to be built.

James Whittaker, executive director of development at Peel L&P, said: “The vision is for a mixed-use sustainable community with a large employment area focusing on the digital, creative and health sectors along with a mix of homes including affordable homes, family housing, build-to-rent, open market and elderly living.

“This vision is at a very early stage – it is the first time we have released this to the community and are keen to understand the views and opinions of Medway residents, businesses and community groups.”
