A joint venture between John Whittaker’s Peel Holdings and Manchester city council have secured £5m of funding from the Homes and Communities Agency for an east Manchester regeneration project.
The jv – Manchester Ship Canal Developments – will use the money to build 108 new homes at Eastbank, in the Ancoats area of the city.
Building work has already begun at Eastbank, which will include 30 townhouses, and MSCD will this summer launch two residential buildings called Mews and Cube.
Mews will comprise 75 homes including 30 town houses, plus apartments. Cube will feature 33 apartments.
James Whittaker, development director with Peel, said: “The HCA funding has revitalised the Eastbank development, enabling the creation of over 100 jobs and given us the opportunity to show exactly how the private and public sector can work together to deliver outstanding city centre homes.”
