Patron boss paddles 200km for D-Day veterans

Keith Breslauer, managing director at private equity real estate fund Patron Capital Partners and vice patron of RMA – The Royal Marines Charity, has paddled across the English Channel alongside 19 serving and veteran Royal Marines to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

The RMA Paddle Group crossed the Channel through the night of 3 June in two-person Klepper folding kayaks, paddling a route that ended up more than 200km long owing to winds and currents. On arrival at Port-en-Bessin, the group then conducted a littoral paddle of the Allied landing beaches, beginning with Utah and Omaha and culminating with Gold, Juno and Sword.

The aim of the expedition was to increase awareness of both the 80th anniversary of D-Day and the RMA’s vital work with veterans. All funds raised through the expedition have been matched by Patron Capital Partners.

Breslauer said: “To honour the 4,414 men who lost their lives on D-Day and the 73,000 men who lost their lives in the ensuing Battle for Normandy, I was privileged to be able to complete this crossing in memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in order to defend our freedom.”
