Nottingham City Council has revealed fresh images for its redevelopment of the Broadmarsh area.
The plans for the site include more than 1,000 new homes, 200,000 sq ft of office and leisure space, plus the retention of part of the old shopping centre’s structural frame to provide opportunities for innovative new spaces including an NHS community diagnostic centre and a Caves visitor attraction.
The new vision follows on from plans drawn up by developer Stories and urban designer Heatherwick Studio, which were appointed on the 20-acre site in July 2021.
Those proposals included 750 new homes and more than 400,000 sq ft of office and conference space.
The part-demolished shopping centre was handed back to Nottingham City Council at the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, after real estate investment trust Intu Properties went into administration.
Neghat Khan, leader of Nottingham City Council, said: “The plan shows we are committed to finding a solution for Broadmarsh and attracting investment to support the transformation. We will continue to work with partners to find the investment and developers needed to deliver our vision.
Megan Powell Vreeswijk, chief executive of Marketing Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, added: “Unveiling the Broadmarsh masterplan presents an unparalleled opportunity for investment and growth for Nottingham. This transformative project is set to reshape Nottingham’s landscape, creating a welcoming gateway into the city centre.
“The retention of the old shopping centre’s structural frame for innovative spaces, including an NHS community diagnostics centre and a Caves visitor attraction, further underscores the vision driving this redevelopment and highlights the importance of tourism and innovation in our region.
The masterplan has been created by architect BDP and JLL.
