Lidl secures largest supermarket consent in the UK

Lidl-Maryport-570

Lidl has secured consent to build its largest supermarket in the UK so far, as the discount retailer accelerates plans for a £1.5bn expansion.

The proposed 26,000 sq ft store in Maryport, Cumbria, will include more than 100 parking spaces.

It is the latest in a string of new, larger stores planned by the German company and follows the opening this week of its first big supermarket in Rushden, Northamptonshire.

The Rushden store comprises 15,300 sq ft of retail space plus a 1,900 sq ft area for employee use.
