Northampton Town FC in stadium revamp win

Northampton Town Sixfields stadium 570p

Northhampton Town Football Club has won planning permission for the first phase of its Sixfields Stadium redevelopment.

The League Two club last night secured consent to increase capacity at the stadium to 10,000 from 7,653, as well as new corporate boxes.

Plans are now being worked up for more redevelopment in and around the stadium, including a hotel, gym and shop.

Cobblers chairman David Cardoza said: “We are working at a pace and the plan is to have the East stand done by the start of next season. The hotel is going to take a little bit longer, but hopefully we will be putting a planning application in for that in the next month or so.”

The redevelopment of Sixfields Stadium and the surrounding area is part of a £12m loan deal put together by Northampton borough council and the club.
