Nike limbers up for upsized Wembley outlet store

Sportwear brand Nike has signed for an expanded store at Quintain’s London Designer Outlet in Wembley, increasing its footprint at the complex by 68%.

Nike will scale up its store to 15,500 sq ft, from 9,200 sq ft. The length of the lease was not disclosed, but a spokesman for LDO said it was “long-term”.

While expansion works are under way, the brand occupy a pop-up space in the upper mall measuring around 10,000 sq ft. The new, permanent store is expected to launch in Q2 this year.

The news comes after Adidas recently expanded its store at the location by 63%. Separately, fashion brand Tommy Hilfiger trebled its footprint to 7,800 sq ft last week, while Calvin Klein upped its presence by 50% to 4,100 sq ft last month.

Matt Slade, retail director at Quintain, said: “Nike’s desire to dramatically increase the size of its store is a sign of how compelling London Designer Outlet is as a retail destination to some of the world’s best brands and its longstanding excellent centre performance.”

He added: “That so many of our brands, including Nike, have been with us since London Designer Outlet opened – and have expanded at the centre – is a source of deep pride and helps to ensure our guests have a consistently excellent experience every time they visit.”

The 265,000 sq ft outlet mall, operated by Realm, forms part of Quintain’s transformation of the 85-acre Wembley Park neighbourhood.
