New trading laws ‘to boost West End’

Oxford-Street-shoppers-THUMB.jpegWest End landlords are set to get a boost from the relaxation of Sunday trading laws.

The New West End company estimates the measure, announced in the summer Budget, will generate an additional £260m in sales revenues annually were it to result in an extra two hours’ trading.

Deputy chief executive Jace Tyrell said: “There are clear benefits to extended Sunday trading in the West End and Knightsbridge.

“If you walk through the West End on a Sunday, tourists are being taken out of shops. [Relaxation of Sunday trading laws] is a way to future-proof the West End.”
