New R&D facility to be built at Culham Science Centre

The UK Atomic Energy Authority has gained consent for an 86,100 sq ft research and development building at Culham Science Centre in Abingdon, Oxfordshire.

The £40m development, forward funded by Legal & General, will comprise engineering and office space, a rig hall for R&D and a multi-storey carpark. It will be designed to BREEAM Excellent standard.

Kier will carry out the construction works, which are scheduled for completion in mid-2024.

Antonia Jenkinson, UKAEA’s CFO and director of property, said: “We have had strong interest in the new building, which will be versatile and support the growth of innovative companies aligned to UKAEA’s own aims.”

JLL and Burgess Salmon advised UKAEA.
