A 19th-century barge that for 50 years was the retreat of celebrated Suffolk artist Jack Haste was sold last week for £83,000 by Goldings.
The buyer, a local individual, hopes to use the boat for respite accommodation.
The Yare houseboat is listed on the National Historic Ships register and sits on the River Orwell estuary in Suffolk.
It was guided at £50,000 to £100,000, and offered on behalf of a private seller who had refurbished the boat.
The sale took place on 30 September at Wherstead Park in Ipswich and raised £780,000 in total, selling eight of the nine lots offered.
