Net-zero affordable housing scheme approved in Reading

Planning permission has been secured for a 100% affordable net-zero-carbon housing scheme on Wensley Road in Reading, Berkshire.

Designed by HTA Design on behalf of Reading Borough Council, the project will deliver 46 homes, consisting of 28 houses and 18 flats in a four-storey building.

The homes have been designed to be net-zero-carbon using a combination of renewable energy sources, including air source heat pumps.

John Ennis, lead councillor for housing at Reading Borough Council, said: “It is important to Reading Borough Council to not only build good quality housing to deal effectively with the housing crisis, but also for that construction to be sustainable, affordable and help us to get closer to our goal of a net-zero-carbon target by 2030. This development with HTA is designed to achieve that target, and is therefore a great example of what we can achieve through future projects to increase housing stock while being environmentally friendly.”
