MORNING NEWS: Western empires, hotel deals and sticking points

In the news over the long weekend, The Sunday Times takes a closer look at Yuan Yafei, the chairman of the Chinese conglomerate Sanpower Group which bought House of Fraser in 2014. His Western Empire is in ruins and questions are being asked about how it was run, according to the paper.

Also from the Sunday Times, the billionaire owners of the Ritz and the Telegraph newspapers are said to be close to buying the five-star Beaumont hotel in London after outbidding its operators, the restaurant doyens Christopher Corbin and Jeremy King.

Elsewhere Lone Star and Delancey are reported to be in a stand-off over a potential £2bn sale of Quintain.
