MORNING NEWS: A £1bn sale, an unknown hero and Amazon lands at Shepperton

Good morning.

Confidence might not be strong for the government or the latest MP to pick up the housing brief, but there is confidence back in the real estate investment market.

Or so thinks Almacantar boss Mike Hussey, who has brought One and Two Southbank Place back to market after a brief (two-year) pause. The 570,000 sq ft block, let to WeWork and Shell, is being offered with a £935m price tag – up from £875m when it was first put up for sale in May 2019. Blackstone was in for the block in 2020, will it be back?

It sounds like the making of a blockbuster sale.

And talking of blockbusters, the TV and movie production love affair with the UK continues. This time it’s Amazon that has signed a big deal to join its rivals Netflix and Disney at Shepperton. And it is not just Shepperton that is attracting a bit of Hollywood glitz; if you’re interested in the wonderful world of film and TV studios, why not dip back into the EG Property Podcast archives and have a listen to this fascinating conversation about the transformation of Enfield into EnFlix .

Today EG launches its own search for some future stars, not of the big screen, but definitely of the stage and, of course, of the built environment. The first of three new Future Leaders programmes launches today and, as usual, we are looking for at least one “wildcard” entry from the wider real estate environment. Have you got what it takes to be an EG Future Leader? Do you know someone who has? Make sure you enter the competition today.
