Salford City Council, Greater Manchester Combined Authority, Homes England, Peel Land and Muse have launched the Salford Strategic Regeneration Forum at MIPIM.
The forum aims to encourage collaboration between the public and private sectors to deliver place-based growth across the city. It will be implemented across sectors such as housing, place-making, infrastructure, business, retail, and leisure. It will also look to focus on the use of existing partners’ assets and bring forward schemes more quickly.
The forum is an alternative to the option of creating a mayoral development corporation.
Jack Youd, deputy city mayor and lead member for finance, support services and regeneration at Salford City Council, said: “Our vision to create a fairer, greener, healthier and more inclusive city for all includes priorities to deliver good growth and create places where people want to live, and this forum will help us achieve this.
“Through the forum, we can ensure housing and economic delivery is supported by the right infrastructure. The expectation is that there will be the ability to move more quickly on redevelopment. The goal being for projects to start quicker, achieving key political priorities and addressing local aspirations to see more immediate action. Lost time will be limited, costs and resource requirements reduced. This is the starting point to working to secure and commit funding from central government via the Greater Manchester Combined Authority.”
