MIPIM 2010: Argent launches partnership for St Peter’s Square regeneration

David Partridge, joint chief executive of Argent, has announced the launch of a partnership to transform Manchester‘s St Peter’s Square area.

The announcement was made at this week’s MIPIM event in Cannes.

The St Peter’s Partnership will also include a number of landowners in the area.

Its aim is to comprehensively upgrade St Peter’s Square, where Argent and the Greater Manchester Property Venture Fund have consent for a 270,000 sq ft office building; One St Peter’s Square.

The area also contains a collection of historic civic buildings including the town hall, the central library, the Midland Hotel, and the former Free Trade Halll.

The council and its partners plan the refurbishment of the central library and town hall extension over the next three to four years.

Partridge said: “St Peter’s Square has the potential to become the premier district in Manchester, as well as an area for cultural activity both within the square itself and inside the refurbished Town Hall, Library and One St Peter’s Square.

“The square is part of a rich network of public spaces in Manchester and the aim is to promote this currently underperforming square as an essential part of the urban fabric, similar to other successful areas such as Albert Square and Piccadilly Gardens.”
