Mecca bingo clubs to start reopening

Rank Group is to reopen 35 of its Mecca bingo clubs across England from 4 July.

It anticipates a phased opening of a further 30 venues during July and August across the UK.

The remaining 12 venues are to stay closed until October while the company assesses their viability.

In an update, Rank said that these venues would likely need some restructuring to allow them to reopen, including a renegotiation of the rents being paid.

Discussions are ongoing with the government over the reopening of Grosvenor’s casino estate.

The firm reported that its Enracha clubs in Spain have all now opened and revenues are at 60% of pre-Covid levels, while its digital business has traded well, with fourth quarter revenue growth of circa 17%.

Rank also reported that its underlying operating profit for the year is now expected to be at the lower end of its guidance range of between £48m and £58m due to the costs of reopening its venues.

Its cash and available facilities at the beginning of July of stood at around £140m.

Rank added that it still anticipates being able to meet its banking covenants and its monthly cash outflow to reduce from circa £10m per month to £7m per month with the reopening of its Mecca venues.
