Maya Capital to launch £250m retail vehicle

Real estate investment firm Maya Capital is to launch a new vehicle targeting retail properties in need of regeneration in London.

The firm has hired former Trophaeum Asset Partners’ managing director Jared Hart to oversee the vehicle, as its head of acquisitions.

Hart worked at Trophaeum for roughly a year and a half, after joining in 2018. He left the firm in February.

Hart’s previous roles also include managing director for Europe at Thor Equities, where he bought retail assets for redevelopment, and head of European acquisitions at Pears Global.

Across these, Hart has handled more than £2bn of assets.

David Pralong, managing partner at Maya Capital, said: “We are providing significant fire power and a strong management team that is required to drive the regeneration of struggling retail assets, especially as we navigate the post-Covid-19 landscape.”

Hart said: “Even prior to Covid-19, some retail assets were no longer sustainable due to a mix of high rents and capex requirements.

“Our aim is to build on Maya’s already successful office strategy to target those retail assets in need of regeneration.”

Maya Capital launched in 2014. It has invested across UK regions in commercial assets, largely offices, on behalf of family offices and institutional investors.
