Proptech VC MetaProp has appointed industry heavyweight Maureen Waters as a partner.
Waters joins the company from real estate tech firm Ten-X, where she is president of the firm. She has also held senior executive roles at Bill Gates Investments and Cushman & Wakefield.
Waters will help expand the company’s global presence and develop in-house capabilities, as well as strengthening existing community programmes such as the MetaProp Accelerator at Columbia University.
She will be one of few female partners in the proptech space. According to research by All Raise, 65% of VC firms in the US do not have any female partners.
Commenting on her appointment, Waters said: “I am passionate about innovation and technology and have been fortunate to spend time in tech, investment, and commercial real estate. Now, with my new role as partner at MetaProp, I can spend time integrating this powerful trifecta through an innovation lens for the benefit of investors, strategic partners and portfolio companies. I believe we are at an inflection point in the real estate cycle where innovation will differentiate the winners and the losers.”
