Countrywide’s share price leaped by 6.35% to 241p, its highest point since early March, after the company rejected an £82m takeover bid from rival Connell.
The firm has instead recommended to shareholders a revised proposal from private equity firm Alchemy Partners.
Other property risers included BMO Real Estate Investments, which climbed by 9.8% to 65p, and Helical, which saw an increase of 3.56% to 392.5p.
Conversely, GCP Student and Harworth Group both saw share price falls of more than 3%, to 142.8p and 102.5p respectively, while housebuilders Berkeley Group and Taylor Wimpey also saw dips of more than 2%, which pushed the pair into the FTSE 100’s top fallers of the day.
The FTSE 100 rose by 1.23% to 6,463, while the FTSE 250 nudged up by 0.17% to 19,877.
