Manchester approves mixed-use scheme in Gorton

Manchester City Council has given the green light for a mixed-use scheme on the former Mellands playing fields in Gorton, Manchester.

The scheme, which is owned by the Greater Manchester Youth Federation, is being delivered by Kellen Homes.

The proposals include 303 homes and 10,900 sq ft sports, youth and community facilities, including two football pitches, a combined basketball and netball court and a cricket strip. The main community centre will comprise two youth rooms and a community room, which is expected to host a number of events as part of the federation’s programme and will also be available to the local community.

Kellen will deliver 267 two-, three- and four-bedroom houses, 96 of which will be affordable. It will also deliver 36 independent living one-bedroom flats allocated for young people, which will be managed by the homeless charity Centrepoint.
