Islington councillor James Murray is Sadiq Khan’s new deputy mayor for housing.
The confirmation of a move widely predicted across the industry was announced earlier today.
But a rumoured move to give former transport secretary Andrew Adonis a role did not materialise.
Murray has been the councillor responsible for housing and development at Islington since 2010. He stood in for Khan at hustings in the run-up to the London Mayoral election.
Murray spoke to the Estates Gazette yesterday about Khan’s housing strategy on condition of anonymity because his appointment had not been announced.
Yesterday: Khan’s 50% affordable housing target is “strategic”
Last week: Developers unhappy at prospect of Murray as housing chief
Khan said today: “Housing is a top priority and I want all Londoners to be able to buy or rent a decent, affordable home.
“Murray comes to City Hall with a strong track record of success, having championed the delivery of innovative housing solutions for years.
“I know he will be a huge asset to the team as we work towards building the thousands of affordable housing London needs.”
