Liverpool’s former RBS building turnaround approved

Liverpool City Council has given Bruntwood the green light to reimagine the 19th century, Grade II listed Exchange Court on Dale Street.

The property, which was most recently occupied by Royal Bank of Scotland, will include 12,500 sq ft of refurbished workspace and a hospitality venue across three floors.

A new food and drink offering will also be included in the former banking hall on the ground floor. Bruntwood is looking to partner with a hospitality operator to occupy the space.

Elsewhere, the ground and first floor redesign will create nine office suites ranging from 966 sq ft to 2,500 sq ft of fitted workspace ready for immediate occupation. In addition, the firm plans to revamp the communal area between suites.

Externally, Exchange Court will retain its Grade II listed Italian-style design, which was influenced by the Palazzo Corner in Venice, Italy. As such, some features will remain untouched, including stone carvings, decorative iron balconettes and an original marble fireplace.

Bruntwood has owned the building since 2007. Following planning approval, renovation works will begin towards the end of April with completion slated for autumn this year.

Andrew Butterworth, commercial director at Bruntwood, said: “Harnessing the building’s heritage and history has been a key focus in creating a fit-for-future workspace where people can come together and flourish.

“We are dedicated to delivering inspirational, flexible workspaces for customers of all sizes, from SMEs to large businesses, that are focused on creating a perfect blend of work and wellbeing.”
