MIPIM UK 2015: The £5.5bn Liverpool Waters project, which could increase the city’s population by 10%, is among the larger schemes being promoted on the combined Liverpool & Manchester stand, part of the northern powerhouse group of local authorities present at Olympia.
The project, being developed by Peel Holdings, will provide 1.3m sq m (14m sq ft) of floorspace including 300,000 sq m of office space in a scheme with a mile-long waterfront.
“We would love to replicate what’s happening at Canary Wharf and attract some of the major banks,” said head of Liverpool in London Chris Heyes, who added that the scheme is the largest on the books of government body the Regeneration Investment Organisaton.
Heyes and the Liverpool team are promoting a large number of property opportunities at MIPIM UK including the Royal Liverpool Hospital, now on site, and its associated bioscience campus; Liverpool 2, the city’s new superport; and Stanley Dock, which includes a former tobacco warehouse.
Heyes said the city was attracting a lot more interest in its residential property. “We are getting more and more enquiries out of the London market as people are beginning to think that London is a bit overpriced,” he said.
