Capital & Centric has instructed Avison Young and CBRE to launch a hunt for occupiers to fill up Liverpool’s £70m TV and film campus.
The move comes as the city council is due to make a decision on the transformation of the 1930s former Littlewoods Building on Edge Lane later this morning.
The UK’s oldest film studios, Twickenham, has been proposed as a major anchor tenant for 85,000 sq ft since 2021, alongside Liverpool John Moores University, for 75,000 sq ft. However, the latter pulled out of the deal in October 2022. The university remains a close partner of the project but will be investing in its own campus and facilities.
John Moffat, joint managing director at Capital & Centric, said: “As work is well underway on site, we are now ramping up our search for the companies, big and small, to come and join the Littlewoods community.
“A haven for the creative and digital sector, Littlewoods will be home to film and TV, with two new studios for big-budget productions alongside a whole ecosystem of support facilities and spaces for creative businesses and education, making it the digital, film and entertainment capital of the UK.”
The 270,000 sq ft plans, featuring four cinema screens, a performance space and a food hall, will also include the reinstatement of a clock on the iconic tower which has been temporarily removed due to safety issues.
Elsewhere, the developer is part-way through enabling work on the project and is looking to engage with contractors for the main restoration works, which include two new 20,000 sq ft studios for big-budget productions. The planned sound stages will take around a year to build and become operational.
Capital & Centric is working with Liverpool City Council as the freeholder of the site and Liverpool City Region Combined Authority as project funder. The combined authority, led by mayor Steve Rotheram, has committed up to £17m to the project.
