MIPIM 2012: Increasing London’s commercial ‘floor space’ over the next 15 years will be crucial in managing the city’s expected population and economic growth, deputy mayor Edward Lister has said.
Speaking to Estates Gazette in Cannes, Lister said he’d be using MIPIM to encourage foreign investors to look at London this year. ‘This year, being the Olympic year, many investors will be back and we want to make sure they seriously consider London and put their money (there).’
He added that the commercial property sector played an ‘enormous role’ in growing London’s economy. ‘We know London is growing at an existing rate – over 800,000 more people over the next 15 years and we need jobs. We need to grow our existing successful businesses but also new ones and for that we need commercial floor space.’
