Lego pieces together London HQ hunt

Lego Group has reignited its search for a new headquarters in the capital.

The Danish toy company is seeking between 150,000 and 200,000 sq ft of office space and has appointed JLL to lead the hunt.

Lego’s existing London offices are in adjacent buildings at 8-10 New Fetter Lane and 1 Plough Place, both EC4, where the company occupies 28,852 sq ft and 19,424 sq ft respectively.

Both offices are owned by Danish family office Kirkbi, which acts for the Kristiansen family, founders of Lego Group.

The first employees moved into the New Fetter Lane office in 2014, before expanding into Plough Place in 2017.

It also occupies around 30,000 sq ft at 33 Bath Road in Slough, Berkshire, where the company’s sales office is based.

Lego chief executive Niels Christiansen said in an interview with Bloomberg last year that the company planned to hire 500 more digital experts in the UK, Denmark and China.

In 2016, the company instructed JLL to find it a new 100,000 sq ft headquarters in the capital.

It was in talks to take around 100,000 sq ft at the Argent-led redevelopment of King’s Cross, N1. It considered upping its requirement to 150,000 sq ft to occupy nearly all of the 165,900 sq ft T3 building, before deciding to scale back its plans.

A spokesperson for Lego told EG: “We routinely review all aspects of our business to make sure we’re best placed to continue to reach more children with Lego play. We have no news to share right now.”

JLL declined to comment.
