Leeds Metropolitan University has appointed Modus to deliver a 1.4m sq ft, education-led, mixed-use project in Leeds city centre.
The £300m scheme will comprise several state-of-the-art educational buildings, offices, student and private flats, a hotel, and associated cultural and leisure uses.
Managing director Brendan Flood said: “Education is now a focus for us. We want to redeploy our town-centre regeneration skills into more education-based projects.”
He added that the developer hoped to add another six schemes of a similar size to its portfolio in the coming months.
The redevelopment of the 7-acre Leeds Metropolitan University Civic Quarter site, alongside Modus’s redevelopment of the Manchester Reform Synagogue, will be used to launch the company’s housing and non-retail mixed-use division: Vivo Modus.
Vivo Modus, which will be run by director David Skidmore, has more than 3,500 residential units in the pipeline.
He said: “This is one of several projects that we are bringing forward in partnership with higher education establishments.
“It is a sector into which we are keen to expand further.”
