A Square Mile office block owned by LaSalle Investment Management has been awarded the highest possible rating for sustainability.
The 10-storey, 325,000 sq ft 60 London Wall, EC2, has received an “outstanding” rating from BREEAM, based on support for the health and wellbeing of tenants, energy and water efficiency, use of materials, waste management, transportation and ecological features.
The EPR Architects-designed building’s embodied carbon is 40% less than a typical new office building, LaSalle said, achieved through reusing the existing substructure and part of the superstructure. Its operational energy performance will also be lower than that of similar sites.
Four of the building’s floors step back to provide roof terraces in addition to a green roof. The terraces and roof are “blue” roofs, meaning they delay the discharge of rainwater.
Gary Moore, fund manager at LaSalle, said: “We believe in delivering sustainable buildings to meet both the investor’s and occupier’s ESG credentials and are confident this design and management will be integral to the future success of the asset.”
